It can be disheartening, frustrating, and very scary when IDHS denies or stops someone's cash, food, or medical benefits. But the Notice of Decision you receive is not the final word. This session is designed for benefits recipients and for busy professionals who support them (e.g. social workers, case workers, homeless outreach.) This is an introductory-to-intermediate level training. While this training will cover all IDHS benefits, we will highlight strategies to use for clients losing SNAP benefits because of the new SNAP time-limited work requirements. From this training, participants will learn:

• Strategies for getting/keeping benefits without filing an appeal
• How to file an appeal
• Tips for winning appeals without a hearing
• Overview of what happens at a hearing
