PSLS is committed to providing high quality legal services to clients, and to being accountable to the communities PSLS serves and those individuals applying for PSLS services. PSLS intends that the procedures explained in the document linked below provide a fair method for the resolution of disputes.

PSLS Short Message Service (SMS) Privacy Guidelines
Prairie State Legal Services (PSLS) sends Short Message Service (SMS) text messages only to clients who have consented to receiving text messages during PSLS’ intake process, or when permitted by the Illinois courts. PSLS will only collect the client’s phone number relating to text messaging. Any information shared via SMS is for the purpose of legal services. Any information shared via SMS is confidential and not shared with third parties unless it is necessary to facilitate the client's legal services. PSLS takes reasonable steps to secure all client data. However, SMS messages may be transmitted over the internet and PSLS cannot guarantee absolute security of client information as no method of transmitting data over the internet can guarantee absolute security. Clients may withdraw consent to receive text messages at any time by responding to a SMS message with clear language asking to stop messaging or by contacting PSLS. SMS Terms of Service
- Opt-in: All clients will be asked to opt-in to receive SMS messages from PSLS during the client intake process. Clients may receive messages from PSLS regarding their case such as appointment reminders or a request for information. Standard messaging and data rates may apply.
- Frequency of Messages: Message frequency will vary depending on the specific needs of the case and whether the client has chosen to communicate with PSLS via SMS.
- Opt-out Instructions: At any time, a client may reply to a received SMS message with clear language indicating that they want SMS messaging to stop or by directly contacting PSLS and requesting that SMS messages be stopped.
- Consent to Receive SMS: By providing a mobile phone number and opting in, the client is giving consent to receive SMS messages and is confirming that they are the authorized user of the mobile phone number provided.
- Message and Data Rates: All fees associated with SMS messaging are the client’s responsibility. Standard messaging and data rates may apply. It is the client’s responsibility to check with their mobile carrier for questions about messaging rates.
- Privacy: We respect client privacy. Please see PSLS’ SMS privacy guidelines.
- Disclaimers: PSLS is not responsible for undelivered or delayed SMS messages or any other technical issues that may arise by using PSLS’ SMS service. PPSLS may send appointment reminders or reminders about deadlines as a courtesy but all appointments, court dates, and deadlines are the responsibility of the client and SMS should not be relied upon for reminders.
- Governing Law: These terms and conditions are governed by the laws of the State of Illinois and any disputes shall be resolved in accordance with these laws.
- Limitations of Liability: PSLS is not liable for any damages that occur due to participation in SMS messaging. This includes but is not limited to delays in messages, undelivered messages, transmission errors, technical issues with client’s mobile devices, and message or data charges.
