The Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) (formerly known as "food stamps") provides vital and life-saving food assistance for low-income families. Nearly 2 million families in IL rely on these benefits to access the food they need to survive. In January, we presented "SNAP 102: Up Your SNAP SKILLZ". In that training, we had an in-depth discussion about SNAP eligibility and budgeting rules. (You can find a slide deck for that training at https://legalaidchicago.org/public-benefits-training-materials/) However, after the U.S. Congress and current administration passed the H.B.1 budget bill, many of those rules are set to change. In this training, we will go into detail about those changes. We will cover what we know, what we don't know, and what steps you might take now to help protect your and your clients' SNAP benefits.
