Reinstating SSI Benefits for Sandy

Meet Sandy, an older adult with serious mental health issues who relies on Supplemental Security Income (SSI) and her family’s assistance to meet her basic needs. Sandy’s sibling reached out to PSLS when Sandy was notified that she owed more than $20K to the Social Security Administration and would stop receiving SSI benefits. Thanks to funding from the Winnebago County Community Mental Health Board, PSLS provided high-quality legal services to Sandy, advising her on the necessary steps to successfully challenge the overpayment and reinstate her benefits. WCCMHB’s funding is made possible through a half-cent sales tax in Winnebago County.
