Path to a Fresh Start Offered to Peoria County Residents on Sept. 26
Peoria County residents have the opportunity to begin their journey to a fresh start at a free criminal records relief clinic! The clinic is on Friday, Sept. 26 from 10 a.m. - 3 p.m. at the Peoria Public Library’s main branch, 107 N.E. Monroe. Community members will also have access to other local resources thanks to PSLS’ community engagement team.
Oftentimes a fresh start can happen through the expungement and sealing of criminal records, because the record can be a barrier to employment and other opportunities. When the expungement or sealing process is successful, a client’s door to opportunity is open wider, giving them a chance to better provide for themselves and their families and contribute to the community.
At the Sept. 26 clinic, registered community members will receive free legal assistance to seal or expunge their eligible criminal records. Volunteer attorneys will consult with clients on their available options, prepare the documents to request an expungement or sealing of eligible records, and provide guidance on the process. Clients must meet financial eligibility requirements, and registration closes on Friday, Aug. 22. Interested community members can follow this link to register. The registration link is also available under the Sept. 26 event on pslegal.org/events.
So far in 2025, PSLS’ pro bono team has hosted five expungement and sealing clinics, helping 103 people in Northern and Central Illinois. The pro bono team is planning five more clinics this year. PSLS is proud to help clients expunge or seal their criminal records to move forward with their lives.
Thank you, Meyer & Kiss, LLC, for supporting PSLS’ clinic.
