Helping Salma find Safety

May 6, 2026
Meet Salma, a young wife and mother in an abusive relationship. Salma was seeking safety from her abusive U.S. citizen spouse, and reached out to PSLS for help. Salma’s immigration status was at risk due to the abuse. PSLS guided Salma through a legal path to safety. PSLS represented Salma in an order of protection and divorce from her abusive husband, which included the help of pro bono. In addition, with PSLS' advice and representation, Salma filed a Violence Against Women Act (VAWA) self-petition to help secure her immigration status separate from her husband. Thanks to the high-quality legal services provided by PSLS, Salma’s VAWA self-petition was approved! Today, Salma has a green card and is legally authorized to work in the United States.
