STAFF ATTORNEY

Prairie State Legal Services, Inc., is seeking applicants for aposition in our community legal services office located in BATAVIA.  This position involves primarily housing/tenant advocacy, including representation and negotiations in housing court for evictions of both private and federally subsidized tenants. In addition, the successful applicant will handle cases in other traditional areas of poverty law, such as public benefits, consumer, and elder law. The successful applicant will participate in a full range of legal activities, including the preparation and conduct of trials for low-income persons.  Prefer applicants already admitted to the Illinois Bar, but will consider applicants who are taking the next Bar Exam or are already admitted outside Illinois under Supreme Court Rule 717.  Legal experience is preferred, but not required.  Salary starts at $40,000; depending upon experience.  Liberal fringe benefits.  Prairie State Legal Services has a law school loan assistance program available to select employees on a competitive basis which provides full or partial reimbursement of loan payments to qualified employees who have worked at the program for a year or more.
